The Wedding Present LIVE IN BANGKOK
MONDAY JULY 15 at Check Inn 99
The Wedding Present have had eighteen UK Top 40 hit singles… not bad for a band that has, from its inception, stubbornly refused to play the record industry’s game. It all started in 1985 when David Lewis Gedge boarded a National Express coach in Yorkshire with 500 records packed into a pair of his mother’s suitcases and, in this fashion, delivered the band’s debut single, ‘Go Out And Get ‘Em, Boy!’ to a distribution company in London. That pioneering spirit has been at the core of the band’s philosophy ever since.
From ‘George Best’, the first full-length release on their own Reception Records onwards, the band has charted an appealing, if often eccentric, course of its very own, acquiring a reputation for bittersweet, breathtakingly honest love songs immersed in whirlwind guitars.
The band is making a welcome return to Bangkok, following last year’s successful debut in the city, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their sophomore LP, the incendiary ‘BIZARRO’, which featured their first hit single ‘Kennedy’.
Matthew Fischer and the Fishes
Straight ahead Indie Americana Rock fresh off the Wisconsin farm. Matthew Fischer’s lyrics capture the essence of the American Midwest. Love, alcohol, and loneliness prevail against a backdrop of intense raw yet melodic guitar driven music.
DJ Fatboy Tim
Originally from Coventry (UK City of Culture 2021!), Fatboy Tim has been in Southeast Asia for the last 15 years, and cut his DJ teeth in Saigon where he put on popular Motown/Northern Soul nights, as well as occasional reggae all-dayers and a regular indie/alternative night called ‘No Fun’. He’ll once again be warming up the Wedding Present crowd with indie, punk & alternative tunes from the 60s to the present. Buy him a beer & he might even play requests.
